What We Did on our Summer Vacation

We moved into our new "big house" in Lawrence the first weekend in June. Cedric was excited to see the big truck and was relieved when all our stuff was unloaded safely (as was I).

We moved when the 13-year Cicadas were swarming over the town. Never heard of them? Neither had we. They come out every 13 years and are SUPER loud, especially during the heat of the day. It really was amazing how loud they were and they made going to the playground near impossible. Cedric was worried about the "screaming bugs" flying all over. They really were everywhere, even walking to the mailbox was difficult.

We went to the Prairie Park Nature Center on Tuesdays for stories, crafts and animal demos. Cedric loved seeing all the new animals and learning about native Kansas.

We went to Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead a few times to feed the goats, chickens and fish.

We tried fishing each time but haven't had any luck. Turns out putting worms on hooks is gross. I don't have the skill to get them on well enough to actually catch anything.

We had fun digging and Cedric took his first pony ride. We went a week or so before he was 3 and he did a great job. I was surprised he wanted to do it and was very calm and serious on his ride.

We also went down to Wichita for a short visit and hit up the zoo and the Wichita River Fest for the touch-a-truck.

Here we are on his first Ferris Wheel ride. We went on twice, which was nice because it was a super hot day!

We checked out a few trains, first the one in Lawrence.

And the mini train ride and caboose at Gage Park in Topeka.

We went swimming with old friends and their kids. It's very cute to watch our children getting along.

And we had lots and lots (and lots) of frozen treats.

We grew caterpillars into butterflies, learning patience and metamorphosis.

We went swimming at Lake Quivera for the Forth of July. Turns out Cedric really likes boats and water. Smart boy.

We also played around the house and new neighborhood. Cedric became a good cycler (it's easier on smooth sidewalks).

Played in the water and sand in our backyard.

Cedric had 4 tons of fun helping daddy move the new landscaping rock. He still is trying to move the rocks around - he loves construction!

It was a great summer, full of fun and new experiences. Now it is time for school and hopefully a great fall!
