Happy 1st Birthday Cedric!

Well, we did it! We have successfully cared for Cedric for a whole year. Through all the sleepless nights, terrible napping, separation anxiety, weaning, and the whole not taking a bottle thing - we have come out on top! Cedric now sleeps through the night (11 hours), takes great naps (2 at 60-90 min each) and drinks only whole milk from a cup. He is a picky eater but I hear I was too at his age. He is growing, though more slowly than before.

Length: 32 in - 93rd percentile
Weight: 23 lbs -73rd percentile
Head: 49 cm - 98th percentile

As you can see, his weight percentile is up from his 9 month appointment, which was good to see. The doctor said that from now on it is hard to judge the length growth as their measuring isn't always going to be accurate with a squirming boy. I guess at 3 they start measuring them while standing still, which is more reliable.  He is still wearing mostly 12-18 month clothing, which surprises me. He was growing so fast for so long!

Time to grow up.

Time for a photo of Cedric.

Here is Cedric in the ball pit we created for his party (Thanks Rach for the idea!). He is a proficient walker, can climb up stairs on his own and crawl off the couches feet first. He says mama, dada, up and barks like the dog. Cedric has started mimicking our voices and sounds more so we are expecting his vocabulary to pick up soon. He is pretty good at getting across what he wants and has started to whine a bit when he isn't getting his way. He can wave and clap and loves to be upside down. He is still very expressive and makes funny sighs and mmmms when he is eating something tasty. His favorite foods are blueberries and gerber cheese puffs. His favorite book is Apple Pie ABC which is about a dog trying to steal food. Sound familiar? His favorite pastimes are going to the dog park to run around with the dogs, watching cars on the street, and splashing in the dogs water bowl. Really, any splashing he loves.

Cedric had a little birthday party on the Sunday before his big day. We had a few friends over for the "Birthday Open House" to play in the ball pit and enjoy the colorful balloons. Here is Cedric, playing nice with Clara.

And here he is with Tucker. They still didn't interact much, they are very laid back boys.

On Wednesday we did our family party, complete with birthday hats and cake!

Don't forget about the presents! Cedric opened his gifts over three days because he had so many. It gave him lots to play with while Granny was in town.

Silly Cedric wasn't too into opening the gifts. After he got his first handful of wrapping paper he was satisfied.

I made rainbow ti-dyed cupcakes with homemade buttercream frosting for his party and a special "smash cake" for Cedric to destroy on his birthday. We did light the candle for a moment, I think it would have been bad luck not to!

I started out feeding the cake to him on a spoon because he wasn't getting too excited about the white blob in front of him.
"Mom, why did you give me this big blob? I'm never going to be able to finish it! Can you take it away now please?"

"Okay Mom, after further evaluation - maybe this isn't so bad but that doesn't mean I'm going to let loose.

Here is the after shot, we took the cake away shortly after this was taken. You can see the pretty rainbow color (surprisingly easy) and  that he did eat some of the cake (again, just from a spoon). He may of licked his fingers, I can't remember.

So that is it, the story of his birthday. He also had a little party with a cupcake and more presents with his Granny and Uncle Clifton. He went to Gymboree and had a generally nice day. I'll leave you with a picture of Cedric playing in his "Birthday Suit". He ran away from me while I was getting his bath started, silly busy boy.
