Thanksgiving in Cayman

Sometimes you need to have fun. Sometimes you need to go relive the "glory days". Sometimes you need a break. Sometimes you need to go to Cayman.

After a Skyping our friends Alanna and James on a snowy day at the beginning of November we decided to check flights for Cayman. We had been thinking about going for a while and jumped at the chance to take Cedric to see the island where we lived for over three years. We flew down on Thanksgiving day and had a wonderful Turkey dinner from Kirk's, thanks to our thoughtful British friends.

Cedric enjoyed the beach. We spent time preparing for the trip, talking about sand castles and pirates, watching Mickey Mouse Pirate Adventure and showing photos of Alanna and James. The first day had crashing waves, which kept him out of the sea but after seeing a few swimmers on Saturday, Cedric was ready to get in the ocean!

We spent most of the time at the beach digging for dinosaur bones (like Curious George does), building sand castles, digging holes and swimming away from sharks.

And occasionally lounging around.

On Friday we hired a babysitter and hit up the Jolly (newly refurbished) and Boogey Nights at the Warf.

We were so old we had to move to the inside cabin so we could chat rather than listen to the loud music.

Every morning we went to the beach. I promised myself that we would make sure to spend lots of time there, even though we rarely did the last few years we were there. It is funny how much you take it for granted while you live there! Here are lots of photos from the beach.

We didn't make it up to the Turtle Farm but we did hit the turtles at the Marriott. Cedric had a lot of fun watching them and trying to feed the turtles.

Alanna (Llama) and James live in Camana Bay and Cedric really enjoyed all the area had to offer. Here he is having his first ice cream cone. He insisted on the cone.

Cedric really enjoyed the wildlife, watching the lizards and chickens. There is a small lizard on top of the iguana statute, he loved checking them out. He didn't like when I tried to touch them.

Cedric loved the fountains at Camana Bay. We spent most afternoons running through them and meeting new friends.

Cedric enjoyed the Christmas decorations around Camana Bay. I was glad we put up our own tree early, he understood the trees and liked checking them out. He was too nervous to meet Santa this year, even though he was wearing a tropical shirt.

It was a lot of fun to spend time with the Trundles. We hadn't seen them (except Skype) since their wedding in England! It was fun to catch up and relive the old Cayman days. The boys made it to Pirate's Den and our old Jayhawk flag is still up!

By the way, the Trundles have cats. Cedric loves the idea of cats but never really was very close to them. The photo below is the closest he got and that was the last day.

One of the last days Cedric got creepy about coconuts. He really wanted one and so I worked all day to find one for him. He carried it around all day until he completely forgot about it. Two year olds.

We had a wonderful trip. It was great to spend time together and give Cedric time at the beach. He had been complaining about not being able to go to parks and play in the sand. We hope he may have some memories of this trip!

It was overcast most of the time but we did get one sunset. We went down to the beach and Cedric asked for us to draw Mickey, of course.

We love going back to Cayman. We miss the island, I hope we can go back soon!

  1. This looks like so much fun. Love that your glory days are in Cayman--ours in Boston. :) The pic of you and him is SO good! And I love that he wants you to draw Mickey. Get them hooked early!
